Speech Competition! Masha Allah, all 4 participants from our class performed very well in the speech competition! Shoaib placed 1st, Huda M. 2nd, and Daiyan 3rd. Congratulations to the winners!
Grade 5 Bazaar! Masha Allah the students did a great job in promoting and selling their food items and additional products! Students also coordinated games and activities for the Elementary students! Alhamdulillah, it was a great success!

Students are back from the March Break and we began with some introductory activities to introduce our novel-Wonder. Students passed around a paper Ben, saying negative, and then positive things to it. This led to a discussion about put-downs and bullying. We then did friendship circles, where students shared deep and personal experiences they have had related to bullying.

This month, students have been working hard on their Masjid projects. They are very excited about this and can't wait to showcase their final products in front of the Middle School!

Introducing the Masjid Projects! As a lesson, we looked at pictures of different Masjids from around the world. Students will now begin making their own 3D Masjids, following specific math (geometry) criteria. Hence, there is an integration of Islamic Studies and Math. Students are really excited about this one!

Students are finding an advertisement to analyse, and many have started the brainstorming process using the graphic organizer provided to them!
To introduce our Media Literacy Unit, we conducted a PowerPoint Presentation. We showed the students some print ads, and also showed some youtube advertisements. Together we analysed how the advertisements were persuasive, and who they targeted.

We have started our new unit on news articles. We are reading articles online, and will be writing our own newspaper articles. This is a great way for students to develop their writing skills in a variety of genres!
Alhamdulillah, our Halal Snack Party was a great success. Students really enjoyed all the delicious food items.

We are learning about Growth Mindset- the belief that we are capable of handling challenges with effort, strategies, and support. This belief is widely held in public schools as well. Students worked in groups to develop inspirational posters which will be displayed in our classroom.

We are beginning our unit on Spoken Word. Students will be preparing their presentations in class. We watched some videos to inspire them and facilitate their brainstorming.
Students were very excited about our Science Matter review game which we played on our Class I-Pad, using an app called Kahoot! This was essentially a trivia game which provided all students the opportunity to answer a multiple choice question. We also played Taboo, which was fun as well!
Alhamdulillah, our field trip to Major Abbas was a lot of fun! Students had the opportunity to play Capture the Flag, Soccer, as well as have relay races.

5B Mystery Bag Science Experiments!
Meet and Greet Night! It was a pleasuring meeting all of you and talking about the excellent progress the students have made over the first few weeks. Here are some pictures of our classroom preparation and treats.
Students had a lot of fun with Terry Fox activities. This included a neighbourhood walk, movie presentation, and various activities set up around the school. Alhamdulillah great opportunity to raise awareness!

Our field trip to Willowgrove was an incredible experience for the students! It was a great opportunity for them to develop a sense of community, teamwork, class spirit, and leadership. Students enjoyed the variety of activities they participated in, including low ropes, as well as shelter building. Please see pictures below!

To introduce our new math unit, 'Number Patterns', we asked students to create patterns using math manipulatives (pattern blocks). Using concrete objects enables children to grasp mathematical concepts with greater ease.

Eid Party! Getting the food prepared was a mission, but well-worth it in the end. Thanks again to the Parents for sending such delicious food. Masha Allah, our party was so good, that many of the staff members came to indulge!

On Monday, students were asked to prepare posters on why math was actually important? What is it's real life application? How is it useful? A lot of the times if we explain to children the wisdom behind what we learn, individuals naturally take a greater interest in it. Masha Allah, students came up with a variety of reasons for the significance of math and presented their ideas to the class.
Alhamdulillah, just finished cleaning up! Awesome first week with an amazing class! Looking forward to the upcoming weeks, Insha Allah!

Students participating in a snowball activity in which they anonymously wrote down strategies they could use to get the citizenship and Principal's awards. After writing, they crumpled their papers in the form of snowballs and thew them in the middle. Answers were shared and prominent responses were shared on the whiteboard. Great learning opportunity for all!
We gave out our Readers, our Primary Language texts that we use. Our first activity involved students participating in various drama scenarios related to classroom situations. They were confronted with different choices they could make in each of these situations (e.g. witnessing bullying, dealing with a new student in their classroom, meeting a friend with a bad haircut, etc.). Students did a great job taking on their roles!
Planning the Eid Party! Special shout-out to Farzeen and Shoaib for helping us coordinate it. Great initiative, Masha Allah. Thank you Parents for confirming the food items that your child will be bringing. Insha Allah, it will be a wonderful Eid Party!
When students are ahead, we challenge them with brain teasers, word searches, mazes. This not only helps students feel engaged in their learning, but also promotes the development of their critical thinking skills.

Alhamdulillah, we are blessed with a great class! Over the first week, students have been participating in various ice-breaker activities. Students have had fun, while at the same time are feeling more comfortable.

Alhamdulillah, our classroom setup has been completed! The room features colourful posters, informational charts, and organizational storage spaces which promote a motivating and welcoming feeling for students. Many days were spent in designing and decorating the room, as I have seen first-hand the impact that the classroom setting has on student learning and achievement.
